A Modest Proposal
A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift is a satirical essay
published in 1729. Swift suggests some solutions for the economical problems,
but actually he intends to criticize the society. Swift was such a reactive and
clever man that he could easily notice how the Ireland's problems gradually
increased. He put down his brilliant work on paper.
He criticized Ireland's problems to government by using
irony in A Modest Proposal, so we can say that it is a satirical essay.
According to this essay, children may be sold in order to make families' income
higher and also solve the problems.
